Limited edition, serial #10, "Spinoza" model rod. This is the limited edition rod that kicked off the "Spinoza" series rods. Only 15 were produced, of which this rod is the 10th. 8', 3 piece, 2 tip rod for a #4 weight line. Chestnut colored flamed and tempered bamboo with a hand-pressed Payne-style node pattern. Brown wraps, yellow edges, with a purple band at the ferrules and keeper.
Thread treatment was original, with orange shellac cut 50% with alcohol as Payne used to do, then hand varnished. Agate stripper, black high-speed steel snake guides. Ferrules are oxidized step "pot belly" style with Payne-style finial ferrule plugs. Payne-style nickel silver cork check. Grip is a cigar composed of 22 stacked 1/4" high-quality corks. Oxidized rear the cork check with a turned reel seat barrel of 1/4" corks. Seat hardware is a nickel silver pocket cap pressed over a Payne-style aluminum acorn. The slide band ring is done with the tiny convex scallops leading to the fine coin knurl edges. "Spinoza Rod - Spinoza Rod Co Makers" stamped on the reverse of the nickel silver pocket cap. "Serial #10" written on the rod shaft. Flawless spar varnish coat. This rod has never even been lawn cast.
Leather rod tube by Arnie Mason. This is the brass core tube. "Spinoza Rod Co., Serial #10" stamped on the leather tube. Leather cap has an oval brass plaque, hand engraved and lettered "Spinoza Rod Co., Serial #10". Green poplin bag with a pull tab.
Each rod in this series comes with a copy of "The Wedding Gift" by John Taintor Foote with a Spinoza Rod Co book plate stating "Serial #10".
