A rare Max Yerxa bamboo fly rod, 8'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. I've come across very few of these rods over the years, they very rarely come to market. Yerxa worked at the EC Powell shop for a few years and his rods carry that strong influence. The rod weighs 4.8 ounces on my scale and is hollow built. On the shaft "8 1/2 Stream Rod #5 Line", "Yerxa Rod", and "Colusa, CA" are faintly inked. Excellent very lightly used condition. Powerful medium full flexing action. Light wheatstraw colored cane done in a two opposed node pattern. Wrapped in a dark honey color with black tipping at the keeper and intermediate wraps between most of the guides. The rod bears a small hook keeper and an agate stripper. The guides and tip tops are chrome. The varnish is in nice condition for its age with a few minor cosmetic imperfections here and there. Bright swiss-style ferrules. The grip is 7" long and shaped to a western profile with the characteristic Powell flare two thirds of the way toward the top. The reel seat is an aluminum uplocking slide band over a wood spacer. The rod packs into an orange bag and an aluminum tube (there is a small dent in the tube in one place - it did it's job). Yerxa rods rarely come to market and this is a nice find.
