A rare Mike Montagne "R-Quad" bamboo fly rod, 8', 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for #5 weight line. This is one of Mike's rectangular quad design where the dimensional profile is larger in one dimension than the other. Mint, unfished condition. Extremely fast action, probably one of the fastest that I've come across. I suspect that anglers might prefer this with a #6 instead of a #5. Hollowbuilt, the rod weighs 3.8 ounces on my scale. Serial #34103. The rod is straight and the ferrule fits are good. Medium straw colored cane done in a spiral node pattern. Transparent honey wraps, with black wraps with honey tipping at the winding check, ferrules, and tip-tops. Mildrum stripper with snake guides and circularly formed snake tip-tops (interestingly the topmost guide on the butt section has been wrapped onto the ferrule). Triangular keeper. The 5" Garrison-style grip has a slight taper being slightly larger in diameter at the nose. Aluminum dual-sliding ring reel seat over a mortised walnut spacer that has been partially hollowed out with a slight lip at the bottom serving to hold the rings on. Swiss-style ferrules which include the original ferrule plug. The rod packs into a bright red cloth bag and packs into a brown painted aluminum tube with brass fittings, and a small drawstring pouch with a little bit of paraffin fits into the tube as well.
