A nice Homer Jennings bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #3 line. The rod weighs 3.4 ounces on my scale. The serial number #620, the maker's mark, and the rod specs are all inked on the butt, and on an adjacent flat "16.07.06" is also inked which I presume to be the date of manufacture. The rod may have been lawn cast but is in pristine condition. Nice dry fly action. There is a tiny bit of brassing to the edge of the buttcap but I suspect that is from rubbing in the tube bag. Blonde cane done in a three up node pattern. Mirrored tips. The nodes have been nicely pressed to minimize their size. The main wraps are a light honey color with tiny black edges. Oxidized agate stripper and the snakes are light wire. The varnish is superb (it does m heard good to see a maker produce varnish like this!). Oxidized truncated swiss-style ferrules. The grip is 6" and turned to a front loaded large cigar. The seat features a mortised and lightly colored wood which matches the blank nicely, and over that is an oxidized nickel silver cap and ring. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag with a leather hang tab. The aluminum rod tube is painted matte gray with a brass collar and top with a felt pad glued into the bottom of it. One of the nicer rods I've seen in a while.
