A supremely rare Orvis "Caenis" model bamboo fly rod, 6'9", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #3 or #4. Staggered ferrule design with longer tips and a shorter butt. The rod weighs 2.4 ounces on my scale. Serial #78794 in mint or lawn cast condition. This model is ultra scarce, and never appeared in Orvis' regularly published catalogs and was sold through their newsletter called "The Orvis News". There are only about 26 known to exist (Orvis also made five "Yamame Special" models that were identical to this one and marketed to Japan). This is the first one that I have ever personally seen. The butt measures 39 1/2" and the tips are 42 3/4". The rod action is a bit to the slower side of medium. The rod has brown wraps over light chocolate oven tempered cane and a three up node pattern. Carbide striper and chrome snake. The step ferrules are oxidized. 5 1/2" long slim cigar grip that tapers to the keeper wraps. The flatted all cork seat is 3 1/2" long and utilizes two narrow aluminum rings. The rod packs into a green cloth bag and a grey anodized aluminum tube with the Orvis data sticker affixed to it. A rare and unusual rod for the Orvis fan!
