An excellent E.F. Payne model 201 fly rod, 8', 3pc, 2-tip. A 1950's era build with finial ferrule plugs. Medium fast action for a #5 line. The rod has been restored with a combination of some sections having been re-dipped and others having been rubbed out. The butt has a few residual spots of minor alligatoring but the midsection has had a nicely done dip-over. One tip is perfect, the other mostly so, with a few small matte areas left over from the restoration work. The main wraps are brown, with yellow edges and purple at the keeper, male ferrules and tip tops (one purple wrap looks like it has a tiny bit of coloring). The grip is 6" long in a western-style and has been cleaned and the pores filled. The seat spacer is Spanish cedar and the varnish has been rubbed out. The up lock screw lock is stamped "Payne" in a cartouche and "reg U.S. pat off" and the reverse is stamped "Made for, Abercrombie & Fitch Co." The oxidation is great and the ferrule fits are good. The rod is nice and straight. Comes with a bag with no hang tag and a reproduction tube with a rubber pad in the brass top rather than felt. A very nice casting rod in a desirable configuration, this is a nice opportunity to fish a Payne that will serve you well on a variety of waters.
