A superb Payne model 96 fly rod, 6'6", 2-piece, 2-tips. A sweet medium action for a #3 or #4 line. Very good refinished condition and it does not appear to have been fished much as there is no cracking at the ferrule wraps. The varnish is very well done. The wraps are brown with yellow edges and an extra band of purple at the keeper and the male ferrules. The #10 ferrule retains all of its oxidation. The guides are high arch snakes and an agate stripper. The grip is 5 1/4" and in the shape of a slim cigar. The cap and ring reel seat wood is varnished mahogany. Both the cap and ring are oxidized and the cap has been polished enough to make the roller die stamp illegible. No rear cork check. The ferrules are tight and the rod is ready for the river, a nice opportunity for someone who desires the Payne experience. The rod comes packed in a light tan poplin bag with a hangtag. The hangtag states "57431-20-01", "6 1/2 feet", "2 3/40z" ( my scale says 2 1/2oz), "No 96". The rod tube has the 1950's data sticker but there is no ferrule plug. Grey felt in the brass cap.
