For sale here we have a Tom Morgan-era R.L. Winston 7'6 2/2 4-5wt bamboo fly rod made in Twin Bridges, MT in 1978. Serial #1713. The rod includes the original receipt signed by Tom Morgan himself (see pictures). Marked 3 oz. The rod is in excellent+ original condition and appears to have been fished very little. All sections are full length and straight.
The rod features pumpkin-toned cane with honey wraps and burgundy tipping at the winding check, signature wrap, ferrules, and tip-tops. Bright guides. Ring hookkeeper. The reverse half wells grip measures 6" in length with moderate soiling. Bright nickel silver cap and ring reel seat over a mortised cork spacer. The rod weighs in at a lean 3.30 oz. The action is a wonderfully crisp and smooth medium-fast dry-fly. Capable of the utmost finesse while still retaining backbone in the butt for bigger fish and gusty winds. Includes original San-Fran bag and Twin Bridges tube. The rod was built shortly after the move to Montana and the leftover stock was still being used.
