Thomas and Thomas Sextant Bamboo Fly Rod 8'3" 2/2 #9

968

A very nice Thomas and Thomas Sextant bamboo fly rod, 8'3", 2-piece, 2 tips, and built for a #9. Mint, unused condition. This is a relatively new model from Troy Jacques and the T&T team, one designed squarely for use in saltwater, a relatively rare find these days in bamboo but one that hearkens back to the early boom in saltwater fishing when bamboo was still king. Very fast action that should be able to deliver casts with plenty of punch. The rod is nice and straight and the ferrule fits are smooth and tight. Mottled cane built in a three up node pattern construction. " 8'3"/#9 Sextant No 5767" lettered on the shaft above the hallmark T&T swell. Superb varnish. The guides are wrapped in a green matte color with black tipping at the grip, ferrules, and tip tops. The ferrules are wrapped in a dark burgundy. The bottom three guides are saltwater-friendly stripping guides while the top six are plated standard twist. The grip is 7" long and made of up of 1/4" corks, done in a full wells profile with slight flares fore and aft with a gentle swell at the midpoint. The reel seat is an uplocking aluminum design with a hidden pocket cap, done over a milled green aluminum spacer. The bottom of the seat has a 1 1/2" fighting butt done in all cork. The rod comes in a tan poplin bag and a black crackle paint tube with brass hardware, and includes the original warranty card. It's relatively rare that I come across bamboo rods for saltwater but this is a nice, powerful casting rod that should make chasing toothy critters a blast from the boat or shore (and it would also be a fine option for single handed fishing for larger anadromous fish).
