A nice Thomas and Thomas Montana model fly rod, 8', 2-piece, 2-tips, built for a #6 line. " 8'0"/6 Montana No 3317" lettered on the shaft just above the T&T hallmark swell. The serial number #3317 puts the manufacture date as November, 1978. Weighs 4.8 ounces on my scale. Excellent, very lightly used condition. Medium wheat straw cane that is impregnated and constructed in a three up node pattern. Medium action. The rod is straight and the ferrule fits are good. Honey colored wraps, edged with cinnamon, and tipped with black at the keeper, ferrules, and tip tops. The ferrules are wrapped in a very dark burgundy color. Oxidized swiss-style ferrules with the T&T stamp in a small circle. The oxidation on the female has some slight discoloration as do the uppermost part of the top tops. 12 cork grip that measures 6" in length and is done in a subtle half wells profile. The grip is in good shape with some very light hand soiling. The front cork check is oxidized while the rear cork check is bright to match the accompanying reel seat hardware which is an uplocking screw lock with "Thomas and Thomas, Makers" stamped in a cartouche on the ring and a hidden pocket cap. Nicely varnished mortised walnut wood spacer. The rod packs in a tan poplin bag with a stiffener and the original aluminum tube with brass hardware with a T&T sticker affixed that sports the famous "top hat and tails" casting man.
