Tom Moran Fly Rod 7'6" 2/2 #3

1411

A nice Tom Moran fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tips, built for a #3 line. Serial #903/1. 3.5 ounces. Near mint condition, and appears to have been lawn cast only 3 or 4 times. Medium to fast dry fly action. Medium tan color oven tempered cane with a spiral node pattern. Light tan main wraps with edges of green and red at the keeper and red and black at the ferrules. Carbide stripper and black snake guides. Tom's varnish work is superb, at the very top of the field. The swiss ferrules are polished bright. The grip is 6" long and shaped to a slim cigar. The seat is a polished nickel silver cap and ring over a varnished mortised spacer that looks like light walnut. Green cloth bag with spacer and an unusual aluminum tube with the threads cut directly into the tube for the brass cap.

This rod comes from the collection of Dr. Earl Fleegler, a passionate angler and well-known collector in the fly fishing community as well as a renowned hand surgeon. Dr. Fleegler was close friends with a number of angling luminaries including Tom Maxwell, Vince Marinaro, and Stan Bogdan (among others) and devoted considerable effort to collecting some of the finest tackle available from masters of the craft.
