For sale here is an interesting Leonard Model 39 - 7'6" 4-5wt 2/2 bamboo rod built from Walt Carpenter blanks and finished with correct Leonard hardware by a Colorado rod enthusiast. The rod is in excellent condition with a few issues. The butt section female ferrule is loose and will need to be reset. Also, though the wrapping on the rod was done well, the varnish on a few of the guide wraps has cracked and will require attention at some point. All sections are full length and straight save a slight set in one of the tips. The cane is a blonde, straw colored with bright red wraps. Oxidized guides. Ring hook-keeper. Slightly swelled butt. Bright, nickel silver, sculpted winding check. Cigar-style grip 6" in length. The grip is soiled but free of ridging, hook gouges, or other defects. Bright aluminum down-locking reel seat with a lightly varnished butternut spacer. The bright nickel silver ferrules are size 11/64. The fit is perfect, nice and tight as it should be. The rod has a nice medium-fast action that is quite smooth and balances very well in the hand. There is ample power in the butt for larger fish or for longer casts. Though the rod is versatile it is an ideal dry-fly rod. The rod weighs 3.50 oz. Includes gray bag and Leonard style tube with brass ends.
