For sale here is a Walt Carpenter Browntone bamboo rod -- 7'6" for a five weight line. Three sections with two tips. Serial no. 82676 - made in 1982. The rod is in excellent condition. There are some minimal signs of use in the varnish throughout, though hardly detectable. All sections are full length and straight. The rod features stunning darkly tempered cane. The wraps are chestnut with black tipping. Black, gold, and burgundy tipping at the winding check and male ferrules. Clear agate stripping guide. The tips are marked one and two for convenience. Blued hardware throughout save the ring hook keeper. The bluing is beginning to thin in natural wear areas. Gradually swelled butt. The script on the rod is as clean and bold as the day it was written. Hexagonal, nickel silver winding check. Classic cigar-style grip 5 5/8" in length. There is some light soiling on the grip but free of any major defects. Cap and ring reel seat with a gorgeous, mortised burled walnut spacer. The spacer does show slight wear from the reel foot. The ferrule fit is perfect. The action is classic medium-fast dry-fly. A terrific rod for new waters where you're not sure what to expect. The swelled butt gives the rod a stout, strong feeling. The rod weighs 3.75 oz. Comes with original bag and tube. Mr. Carpenter is a recognized master of the Catskill school of rod building and is no longer taking new orders.
