Walt Carpenter Browntone Fly Rod 7'6" 3/2 #5

1402

A very nice Walt Carpenter Browntone Fly Rod, 7'6", 3-piece, 2-tips, and built for a #5 line. Mint condition. 3.8 ounces. Nice medium fast DF action. Light flamed cane done in a three up node pattern. Brown main wraps with black edges. The keeper and male ferrules have an extra band of yellow and red jasper at the windaways and the ferrules. The swelled but has signature wraps in the 3-10-3-1 style of the Leonard Catskill models. The stripper is a white agate and the snakes are bronze. The step ferrules are oxidized. The grip is 6" long and shaped to a western profile. The oxidized slide band and cap on the reel seat feature Walt's finely turned hardware and the spacer is a spectacular walnut burl with a double lip. The butt cap has "W.E Carpenter, Maker" stamped into it. The varnish work is just superb. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag and a brushed aluminum tube with FE Thomas style brass hardware.

This rod comes from the collection of Dr. Earl Fleegler, a passionate angler and well-known collector in the fly fishing community as well as a renowned hand surgeon. Dr. Fleegler was close friends with a number of angling luminaries including Tom Maxwell, Vince Marinaro, and Stan Bogdan (among others) and devoted considerable effort to collecting some of the finest tackle available from masters of the craft.
