For sale here is an exceedingly rare 7' E.W. Edwards De Luxe bamboo rod. Mt. Carmel era (mid-1920s to early 1930s).
The rod is in excellent restored condition, including the original bag and tube. The tube includes its original paper label, also nearly impossible to locate on rods of this era. Steve Blake performed the masterful restoration work. The cane and hardware is entirely original and without repair.
The rod has beautifully flamed and honey-colored blanks with chestnut brown silks and gold tipping. The script is in the characteristic Edwards' yellow and the DeLuxe decal is in fine condition. Hook-keeper. Red agate stripping guide. The petite butt is ever so slightly swelled just before the grip. The short tapered cigar grip is in excellent condition. Down-locking cap and "butterfly" ring all-nickel silver reel seat. Bakelite grip and winding checks as well as a bakelite disc on the base of the reel seat.
The rod weighs a lean 2.80 oz. Ferrule size 11/64 with an excellent fit. The crisp action is on the faster side of medium fast. This is a wonderful dry-fly rod by today's standards let alone the early 20th century.
A finely preserved and very historic rod that highlights what a fine craftsman and how ahead of his time E.W. Edwards was.
