Everett Garrison Model 212-E Bamboo Fly Rod 8'6" 2/2 #6

2382

A very nice Garrison 212E model bamboo fly rod, 8'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels to me like a #6. In my opinion this taper produces the very essence of a medium action rod. Hoagy Carmichael, Garrison's protege, believes it to be one of his best overall trout tapers, and I'm certainly not one to disagree there. The rod weighs 4.6 ounces on my scale. This rod was built in 1967. One tip has been broken and was scarfed with resorcinol glue, and I'm virtually certain that this work was done by Garrison himself along with some other general reconditioning of the rod. The grip has been cleaned leaving it slightly ridged and there has been a repair to the reel seat cork, but the snake guides show no sign of brassing. The action is medium. Dark brown main wraps at the keeper and ferrules. Light yellow tan, almost transparent main wraps with a chrome plated stripper and high arch snake guides. The tip with the scarf has a maroon wrap at the tip top and an olive wrap on the other, which Garrison did to distinguish them for the angler. The cane is oven tempered with darker nodes arranged in a spiral pattern. The butt has a spot of varnish overlaid about halfway between the grip and the stripper that couldn't have been done by Garrison. The original Super Z ferrules are polished bright. The blunt cigar grip is 7" long, and the all cork reel seat adds another 3". A knurled nickel silver slide band and nickel silver pocket cap form the reel seat. The rod packs into the original cloth bag with the attached ferrule plug. The tube is also original with a brass collar and aluminum top. The rod comes with two letters of correspondence between the original owner and Garrison regarding the rod details prior to building.
