For sale here is a Hardy Cascapedia 4/0 Ltd. Edition Fly Reel. Right-hand retrieve. Serial no. 455, made by Hardy master reel maker, D. Brown. The signed booklet is included. The reel is in excellent++ condition having only been sparingly used. The reel includes the original block leather case, booklet, box, and a pair of white cotton handling gloves. The gloves remain unused.
This exquisitely finished, and hand-built multiplier salmon fly reel is numbered 455 of only 500 made worldwide. Each reel is individually numbered, and was made by one of four Hardy master craftsmen, who together lay claim to 116 years of reel making experience. The maker's name is commemorated alongside the limited edition number on a stainless steel medallion on the winding plate. Another medallion displays the royal warrant of HRH The Prince of Wales, an honour which has been granted by successive generations of royalty to the present day.
The drum is made from highly polished bar-stock aluminium. The side-plates are polished ebonite, the rims are stainless steel, the reel seat is brass nickel, and the pillars, drag selector, and check button are finished in nickel silver. The S-shaped handle has been carefully counter-balanced to prevent the slightest shudder in a reel running at high speed. When a hooked fish finally turns at the end of a long run, the 1.7/1 ratio of the multiplier allows fast take-up of any slack in the line. The drag selector can be adjusted to seven different levels, and the check button allows for an audible click or silent operation as preferred.
