For sale here is a Hawes - 9' bamboo fly rod. The rod is in very good original condition and casts a 5wt line nicely. Over time the varnish has suffered from heat and gravity. There are areas of alligatoring, sagging, and minor bag burn. The varnish is not soft and much of the damage could possibly be polished out. All sections are full length and straight. Classic browntone tempered cane. The wraps are an interesting red color with a deep coppery hue. The rod features full intermediates. Despite the varnish issues the wraps are in fine shape void of any cracking or unraveling. Reverse twist, English style bronzed guides. They are quite small to accommodate the use of a silk line. Bright nickel silver winding check. A rather straight tapered cigar grip 5" in length. The grip is soiled and very slightly ridged but free of cracks, hook gouges, or filler. Bright nickel silver cap and ring reel seat. The seat is in wonderful shape without dents or cracks. Stamped on the reel seat is Hawes and Co. as well as "Abercrombie & Fitch Sole Agents". Also, the serial number A363 is stamped on the seat just below the other inscriptions. The bright nickel silver ferrules are size 15/64 and 10/64, the fit is good. A nice balanced action designed for a day when wet fishing was much more prominent. The rod weighs an even 5 oz.

- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Your shipping estimate will be calculated at checkout and if you have any questions please contact us. Please note the buyers are responsible for any applicable import duties or fees that may levied. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

- Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt. Refunds will be either administered by providing a check or, when possible, by canceling a credit card purchase.
