A very nice Leonard Model 38-L fly rod, 7', 2-piece, 2-tips, and built for a #3 or possibly even a #2. Serial #1257 which dates this to approximately 1970 or 1971. Very good used condition. Very slow, delicate action. Blonde cane done in a three up node pattern. Red wraps. Brush coated varnish. Black stainless snake guides. The keeper is one flat right and the serial number is lettered one flat left. The grip is 5" long, shaped to a medium cigar, and has some soiling from use. The reel seat is a varnished butternut cap and ring. The die stamp on the cap reads "HLL Leonard, Rod Co, Makers" in a cartouche. The ferrule fits are tight and the rod is nice and straight. This is a fairly rare model, the first one I have handled in quite a while. The rod packs into a yellow cloth bag with stiffener and an aluminum tube with brass hardware.
