A HL Leonard Model 66 ACM bamboo fly rod, 8', 2-piece, 2-tips, and built for what feels like a #5 or #6. Serial #1036. The rod weighs 4.1 ounces on my scale. The original owner's name is inked on the shaft, along with the serial number. Medium action. The rod is straight and the ferrules seat nicely. Excellent very lightly used condition, bordering on near mint. The reel seat shows a few light impressions and there are a few tiny traces of hand soiling to the grip, but the rod is very clean overall and could not have been cast or fished much. Medium cane color done in the standard three up node pattern. Wrapped red with a subtle band of dark olive tipping at the keeper and male ferrules. The stripping guide has a black ceramic insert and the rod has bright guides and tip tops. Bright step ferrules with an accompanying aluminum and rubber ferrule plug. The grip is 6" long and shaped to a medium blunt cigar. The reel seat is an aluminum downlock over a butternut spacer, and the downlock has two bands and is a somewhat unusual with the lower one having a knurl in the center, and must have been custom done at the original owner's request. The butt cap has the "HL Leonard Rod Co / Makers" stamp in a cartouche. The rod packs into a light cloth bag with a stiffener and an aluminum tube with brass fittings. A fine example of a model 66.
