For sale here is an all brass JB Moscrop Manchester fly reel in leather D block case. 5" diameter. One of the more scarce British reels patented by John Moscrop in 1888 and again in 1891, Moscrop's fellow Manchester Angling Society members dubbed it the "Manchester Reel". It's a one piece frame construction and the whole reel is made of brass. It has a horn handle and is marked on backplate "J.B. Moscrop's Patent, Manchester" and on the bottom of the foot "J.B. Moscrop Manchester". It has a drag adjustment knob on the front plate that turns an exposed screw and exerts pressue on the center spindle. Eight pillars on the inside of the spool form a cage around the drag mechanism to protect it from the line. Nice audible winding check, The reel is in excellent mechanical condition. A very nice, scarce, collectible reel. The leather case is in superb condition as well and is the proper fit size-wise, with some markings on the top from a prior owner.
