For sale here is a very scarce smallest size first model H.L. Leonard Bimetal fly reel made by Philbrook & Paine in the last quarter of the 19th century. Clearly marked "H.L. Leonard - Pat. June 12, 1877". Constructed with a bronze frame, german silver sideplates, foot, handle arm, and spool. The pillar to pillar diameter is 2 1/4" (without pillars it is 1 15/16"). The spool width is 3/4". Ivory handle grasp which makes the reel even more scarce! Excellent+++ overall condition. It appears to have been cleaned and polished at some point in its life, resulting in an absolutely crisp and stunning appearance with no bumps or bruises. The click is nice and smooth and the tension favors left-hand retrieve. The 2 5/8" brass foot is full length, absolutely straight, and unmolested.
One of the rarest examples of the classic Philbrook & Paine Leonard bimetal reel!
