An exquisite H.L. Leonard 49-DF-5 fly rod, 7'6", 3-piece, 2-tips, and built for a #5 line. Serial #391. Weighs 3.8oz. Mint, unfished condition. This is the "Standard" model with blonde cane with small pressed nodes in the three up construction. Honey-colored main wraps with maroon edges at the keeper, ferrules, and tip tops. The serial number 391 is lettered on the mid, tips, and under the keeper wrap. A 1979 manufacture date nearing the end of the "Maxwell" period at Leonard. The ferrule wraps are brown and the stripper is a Mildrum carbide #10. The ferrules are oxidized to the characteristic pewter color. The slim cigar grip is 5 1/2" long. The reel seat is a mortised tiger maple slide band, and the cap and ring are oxidized and stamped "H. L. Leonard Rod Co., The Rod Maker, since 1869". This rod is finished in the usual Maxwell period superb varnish, you won't find better out there. The rod is packed in a tan-colored bag and a black anodized tube with a brass top and bottom, and a Leonard sticker is fixed to the outside of the tube. A desirable model from one of the best periods in any of the big-name rod shops.
