A nice Mike Spittler hollowbuilt quad bamboo fly rod, 9', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. Serial #285. The rod weighs 5.6 ounces on my scale. Excellent original condition with modest use. There are some cosmetic casting cracks to the ferrule wraps and light chipping to the varnish along with a little oxidation to the ferrules. Pretty minor. Medium action, edging toward medium slow. Flamed cane with lighter nodes done in a spiral pattern. Red main wraps with black edges. Agate stripper and chrome guides. Excellent varnish. The rod is straight and the ferrules are oxidized. Mirrored tips. The grip is 6" and squared to a black delrin front cork check and the fork flares at the heel like a western profile and contains a hidden pocket cap. A small chip has been knocked off the pocket cap. The wood spacer is cocobolo wood. The reel seat hardware is an FE Thomas style screwlock. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag and an aluminum tube. Mike's rods are tough to come by these days!
