For sale here is an Orvis Battenkill 7 1/2 foot impregnated bamboo rod for a 5 weight line. Labeled as weighing 4 1/8 oz. but comes in at 3 7/8 oz. on our scale. Serial #27437, completed April 7, 1960 by George Reid and Calvin Skinner. The rod is in very good condition, though both tips have repair wraps just above the last guide. Both tips also appear to have been re-wrapped. All sections are full length and straight. All wraps are in fine shape free of cracks or fraying. The rod features moderately tempered browntone cane that highlights the grain of the bamboo nicely. Chestnut brown wraps as per usual for Orvis rods. Oxidized guides and ferrules with the bluing wearing thin with time. Bright U-shaped hook keeper and an oxidized nickel silver winding check. Cigar grip with a slender nose is in excellent condition with light soiling. Bright aluminum down-locking reel seat with a handsome wood spacer with bold grain. Ferrule size 11/64, the fit is perfect. The action is medium-fast and would make for an excellent all-around trout rod; easily handling wets, dries, and light streamers as well. Replacement bag and later-era replacement black aluminum tube with black and gold foil label with proper details. Most likely this rod was repaired by Orvis and given a new bag and tube at that time.
