A Paul Young Midge bamboo fly rod, 6'3", 2-piece, 2-tip, built for a #4 line. 1.9 ounces. No serial number. Medium full flexing action. The lack of a serial number indicates an early rod (sometimes rods with no serial numbers could be kit rods, but the wraps and ferruling on this one are too professional for it to have been done by an amateur). Bob Summers pointed out that when he worked in the Young shop the keeper wraps always came to the bend, not 3/4 of the way as in this instance. Was this rod possibly refinished? If so, why is there no evidence of soiling penetrating into the pores of the cork grip? The black anodized aluminum ferrules are correct as are the dual slide band rings. The stripping guide is a #8 perfection and the snake guides are correct for the period and show no signs of wear. In sum, I am inclined to view this rod as original. The ferrules are good and the rod is straight. It packs into the original bag and tube.
