An EF Payne bamboo fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels to me like a #6. The rod weighs approximately 4.8 ounces on my scale. Based on the specifications I believe that this was likely a model 202 though there is no hang tag to confirm. Medium-fast, authoritative action. One of the two tips is 1" short and has a small hoop tip top replacement (the longer tip has a large hoop). The rod is in good used condition, with the aforementioned short tip, some soiling to the grip, one very minor scrape on the varnish on the mid between the first and second guide from the bottom, and an area of some blotchiness to the oxidation finish on the mid female ferrule. The regular length tip also has a minor set. Overall, however, the rod is very clean otherwise for its age with excellent varnish throughout. Typical beautiful Payne color to the cane done in a vaguely spiral-ish node pattern. Wrapped in the Payne brown with yellow tipping on the main wraps and yellow and purple at the keeper, ferrule wraps, and tip tops. The oxidized step ferrules seat well. The grip is 6" long and shaped in a western profile. The reel seat is an uplocking aluminum screwlock over a spanish cedar spacer, and the nut sports the Payne stamp in a cartouche, and below that "Reg US Pat Off", while on the reverse it has the "Sold by" Abercrombie and Fitch stamp. The rod packs into the original tan cloth bag (no hangtag is left) and aluminum tube with brass fittings. Short tip notwithstanding this rod would be an excellent fishing companion when you need a little extra reach and distance.
