For sale here is a very scarce Payne Bass Bug rod in un-fished and all original condition. The Bass Bug model was one of the three special rods Payne offered in the 1950's to 1970's, along with the Canadian Canoe Rod and Streamer Rods. Each is very rarely seen! The Bass Bug rod is a very powerful rod for large bass bugs, streamers, and weighted flies. It was made for throwing WF8 lines according to the 1951 Payne catalog, although some like it with a DT7 and even a WF9.
The rod is nine feet in length, three sections with two tips. The weight of the rod is 6 3/8 oz. All sections are full length and straight. The rod has been lawn cast but does not appear to have seen time on the water. The varnish is flawless. The original VL&A price tag remains on the grip. Uplocking reel seat over a Spanish Cedar spacer. The cap bears the “Payne” trademark stamp as well as the "Sold by Von Lengerke & Antoine Chicago" stamp. Wrapped in dark brown with red edges. The ferrule fit is excellent. Complete with original bag with hang tag and the original labeled tube.
