A nice EF Payne model 400 fly rod, 9', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels to me like a #8 line. 6.6 ounces. Lightly used original condition with some cosmetic casting cracks at the ferrules and some cleaning to the grip with a small amount of ridging as a result. A 1950's "Sold by Abercrombie and Fitch" model. Comes with the original ferrule plugs. The varnish is in super condition with no blemishes of any sort. The wraps are brown main with red edges fore and aft at the keeper, male ferrules, and tip tops, and an extra band of yellow and purple at the keeper and male ferrules. Perfection stripping guide and bronze reverse twist snakes. The ferrules retain 99% of the original oxidation. The ferrule fits are as new. The grip is 6 1/2" long and done in a western style with a hidden pocket cap for the uplocking seat. The reel seat insert is Spanish cedar. The uplocking aluminum screwlock has a nickel silver pull out fighting butt plug. The fighting butt is 5 1/2" long overall and stores in a pocket cap in the canvas outer bag. The aluminum tube has the original brass with white felt in the cap. The inner flap of the canvas outer bag has an owner's name inscribed. The rod bag hang tag is missing.
