A Sisters Oregon vintage Payne model 96 bamboo fly rod, 6'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built with a #4 line. The rod weighs 2.7 on my scale. Fast action. Lightly used condition with some cosmetic casting cracks at the ferrule wraps and some grip soiling. The rod is a bit of a departure from the earlier Payne version of this model in some respects: the temper color is a few shades lighter than the original, and the nodes are done in a three up pattern though belt sanded so are a tad grainier than the original. But it is still a very nice fishing rod. The cane is oven tempered to a medium wheatstraw color. The wraps are brown with yellow edges. The rod has a carbide SRMC stripper and black snake guides. The step ferrules are unoxidized and the fits are good. The grip is 5" long and shaped to a medium cigar profile. The slide band seat is mortised rather than flatted and the hardware is polished. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag with a hang tag and comes with a frost coated aluminum tube with brass fittings.
