For sale here is a Linnea Model 814-3 hollow-built bamboo rod by Erik Peterson. 8'1" for a 4 weight line. The rod has three sections and four tips! Serial no. 2108. Here's Erik's description of this model: "There are many views on three piece rod design in terms of the effect that ferrules have on rod action. From my perspective, when properly designed, the placement of ferrules on a three piece rod has a tendency to smooth out the casting characteristics, make the action feel crisp and eliminate the “pulling” effect that a second ferrule can otherwise have. The 814-3 achieves a continuity of action by the manipulation of the dimensions both in the rod taper and hollow cutting in the portions of the rod that transition from bamboo to the ferrule. The resulting rod is crisp and fluid. The 814-3 is designed for fishing sized medium spring creek waters."
The rod has been fished sparingly and remains in excellent condition. The cane is a medium dark straw color. Transparent colored wraps on the guides. Chestnut brown and transparent wraps at the ferrules. Light brown tipping at the ferrules, winding check, and tip-tops. There are also four fine intermediates midway on the butt section in the light brown thread. Swiss-style truncated ferrules size 10/64 and 15/64. The fit is perfect. Full Wells grip with very light soiling. Fits the hand nicely. Up-locking cap and ring reel seat. Fine, knurled nickel-silver ring with a stunning curly Paduak mortised spacer. The butt cap is cork/curly Paduak. Medium fast action, crisp and responsive. The rod balances very nicely in the hand. 2 of the 4 tips are slightly beefier for an action just a touch faster than the 2 thinner tips. The tips numbered III & IV are the faster of the four. The rod only weighs 3 1/8 oz. ounces. Original embroidered five-compartment bag and original labeled tube.
