A nice Pinky Gillum bamboo light salmon rod, 9', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels to me like a #7 or #8 line. The rod weighs 6.7 ounces on my scale. Serial I-809 which is inked near the ferrules on the butt and both tips. Medium action. The tips measure .087" over varnish. Good used condition with some cosmetic issues throughout. The grip is well soiled and has some loss to the cork and some ridging in places (though it is perfectly serviceable). The uppermost guide wrap on the butt has had an overlayer of what looks like epoxy in order to hold it in place (which it has, nicely). The ferrule on one tip has lost its water plug, and there are a number of scrapes and chips in the varnish here and there. All in all the rod has seen plenty of use, though it is certainly fishable. One tip has a righthand sweep, though the other is arrow straight (as is the rest of the rod). The ferrules also seat together beautifully. The butt has two opposed nodes done in a roughly spiral configuration, while the mid and tips have a spiral placement. Beautiful caramel colored cane. The rod is wrapped in the characteristic light brown, with black and cream tipping at the wrap up from the front cork check. The ferrules retain most of their original oxidation. The varnish is nice and hard though, as mentioned, exhibits some chips and wear in a few places. The grip is 7" long and shaped to a western profile with a hidden pocket in the heel. The rod boasts an uplocking screwlock reel seat with the Gillum die stamp on it and a ferrule in the bottom for the accompanying aluminum fighting butt. The rod packs into a reddish-brown cloth bag and the original tube with the sticker intact, as well as a khaki exterior rod tube bag with a pocket for the fighting butt.
