A nice Ron Kusse "Catskill" Model bamboo fly rod, 7', 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #4 line. Serial #2805. The hang tag notes that the rod is made from pre-embargo cane. Fast D.F. action. The rod is mint, no sign of casting at all. Wheatstraw color cane with three-up node pattern. The main wraps are transparent with thin red edges. The stripper is an agate, and the snakes and tip tops are chrome. Ron has always been known for his finish work and this rod is no exception. The varnish is perfect and glass smooth. The step ferrules are polished bright. There is no front cork check and the grip is a medium cigar with a wood lip on the reel seat acting as the rear cork check. The curly maple spacer is flatted and has a nice coat of varnish. The cap and ring hardware are polished and the cap has the stamp "Ron Kusse, Maker." The rod packs into an eggshell color bag with a stiffener and hang tag. The hang tag states the rod weight 2 5/8 ounces (the weight on my scale is closer to 3.2). The rod tube is frost coated with brass fixtures.
