An extremely scarce Ross "Heritage" Edward Vom Hofe style reel, constructed of german silver and delrin side plates. 2 7/8" diameter with a 1" spool width. RHW retrieve. Mint condition with no signs of use that I could find. This reel is serial #5 of 27 reels that Ross produced in 1992 (I believe that Len Codella commissioned Ross to make these). The size is roughly equivalent to a Vom Hofe Perfection size 1 though the spool is less dished than the Vom Hofe reels, resulting in a bit more line capacity (it should hold DT4+90 / DT5+50 / DT6+20 or a WF4+120 / WF5+80 / WF6+50). It weighs 6.4 oz. The reel features a seven-position drag setting mechanism on the backplate, a sliding click switch, two roller pillars, and a sliding oil cap marked "Heritage No.5 E. Vom Hofe". The reel comes in a black leather drawstring pouch and the original box with paperwork.
This reel comes from the collection of Dr. Earl Fleegler, a passionate angler and well-known collector in the fly fishing community as well as a renowned hand surgeon. Dr. Fleegler was close friends with a number of angling luminaries including Tom Maxwell, Vince Marinaro, and Stan Bogdan (among others) and devoted considerable effort to collecting some of the finest tackle available from masters of the craft.
