An unusual Sweetgrass staggered ferrule bamboo fly rod, 6'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #4 line. Serial #1656. The rod weighs 3 ounces on my scale. The two tips measure 52 1/2" long while the butt measures 26 1/2", and the latter comes with a ferruled extension for safety while in the tube. The original owner's name is inked on the shaft as well as the five members of the Sweetgrass team who were involved in building the rod. "Sweetgrass" and the rod specs and serial number are also inked on the shaft. Pleasant medium-fast action. The rod does not appear to have been fished and still has plastic on the grip with tape noting the original owner and rod specs. Medium wheatstraw cane done in a two opposed node configuration. The rod is wrapped in dark green (almost black) with gold trim, and has two signature wraps on the butt, along with the customer ferrule overwraps. It has a gold rope keeper, dark agate stripper, and dark snakes and tip tops. The grip is 6 1/4" in length and shaped to a western profile with a front bamboo cork check (the rear one appears to be nickel silver). The reel seat features a mortised and stabilized burl spacer with a nickel silver cap and ring, with the cap having "SR" stamped into the bottom. The rod packs into a maroon cloth bag and a cream frost coated aluminum tube with bright aluminum fittings and a Sweetgrass sticker affixed to the outside. The outside of the tube also has a note written in sharpie to the original owner, wishing him happy fishing.
