For sale here is a FE Thomas Special bamboo rod -- 8'6" 3/2 for a five or six weight line. Serial No. 31 made in 1931. The rod is in very good + condition with some issues. The varnish has a few chips on the butt and mid sections. The mid section is short 1/2". One tip is 1/4" short. One of the signature wraps has begun to unravel. Both tips have fishing sets.
Rich gold silks and burgundy tipping. Triple banding at the male ferrules and a classically handsome 3-7-3-1 banding pattern at the winding check. Maroon colored agate stripping guide. The tip-tops are the older circular style as opposed to the perfection style. Ring hook-keeper attached to the nickel silver winding check. Cigar-style grip, the grip is quite soiled and also shows damage caused by keeping hooks in the cork. Nickel silver cap and ring reel seat. Fine knurling on the ring. Weight is 4.35 oz. The ferrule fit is excellent. The action is medium. The rod comes with original bag and tube. A classic rod from the golden age that deserves to be fished again.
