Edward Vom Hofe Model 355 Peerless Fly Reel - rare size 3 1/2

For sale here is a scarce and early Edward Vom Hofe Model 355 fly reel - Size 3 1/2 (2 3/8" diameter). Early 20th century reel owing to the model number on the reel foot (instituted at the turn of the century), and lack of a serial number (instituted in 1908). This model was later dubbed the "Peerless" in 1911; before it was known as the "Celebrated Trout and Bass Fly Reel".German silver construction, including the foot and spool. The hard rubber side plates are in excellent condition with no cracks. There are also no dings to the nickel silver bands and the reel foot remains full-length. Mechanically the reel remains in excellent condition with a good click and strong enough spring to prevent spool overrun. The oil cap has the rare Fulton St. stamp. All of the screws except one on the faceplate remain in excellent condition. The reel comes with a Vom Hofe leather reel case with a broken strap.

All in all, a fabulous early example from arguably the greatest reel maker of all time!
