Paul Young / Don West "The General" Bamboo Rod 8'6" 2/2 #6/7

VFT2115

For sale here is a Paul H. Young / Don West "The General" Bug Action -- 8'6" 2/2 6-7wt. Made in 1950. The rod was made by Paul Young and finished out by Don West, a common arrangement with many PHY rods. Though labeled as "The General" the rod is similar to Young's "Texas General" model, just a bit lighter. The rod is in excellent restored condition. The restoration was performed by Bob Summers. Beautiful flamed cane with caramel colored wraps. Bright guides. The original script in West's handwriting remains clean and bold. Original cigar grip 6" in length with thumb indentation often seen on PHY rods. The cork is moderately soiled and with a small spot of filler. Nickel silver cap and ring reel seat over a mortised cork spacer. Paul H. Young seat hardware. Butt cap reads "Paul H. Young Co. Detroit - Mich".

The blued nickel silver ferrules are size 16/64 with a nice and tight fit. The rod weighs 5.15 oz. The action is on the faster side of medium-fast and full of power, with a progressive taper rather than parabolic like most Young rods. It handles a DT6 or WF7 quite well. Strong enough to handle heavy winds, large poppers, weeds, and large aggressive fish - this rod is a cannon. The relatively light weight of the rod makes for easier casting and less fatigue. Includes replacement bag and original Champion tube with brass collar. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to acquire a possibly unique rod from the legendary Michigan rodmaker!
