For sale here is a Paul H. Young "Parabolic 18" bamboo rod. Nine feet in length with two sections and two tips made for a 9 weight line. Made in 1950. The rod is in excellent+ restored condition. The restoration was performed wonderfully by Bob Summers. All sections are full length, straight, and void of any repairs.
Beautifully mottle-flamed cane with chestnut wraps and spiral tipping. Bright guides. Though the script on the butt section was replaced during the restoration, Paul's original handwriting noting the ferrule size on the tip sections remains clean and bold. The E.C. Powell-style grip measures 6 1/2" in length with moderate soiling and wear. Bright aluminum down-locking reel seat over a mortised cork spacer with a blued nickel silver butt cap. The butt cap features the standard Detroit stamp. The blued nickel silver step-down ferrules are size 18/64 with a perfect fit. The rod weighs in at 5.95 oz. The parabolic action is a very powerful medium-fast capable of long accurate casts and feels surprisingly light in the hand. According to Mr. Summers, Paul Young designed the Para 18 for fishing the Florida Keys with Ted Williams. Original bag and tube. Also includes a Summers-made ferrule plug tethered to the bag.
