A nice Darryl Whitehead Presentation bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. Serial #131. The rod weighs 4.2 ounces. Mint unused condition. Medium flamed cane, darker in some areas, and done in a three up node pattern. Superb varnish throughout. The main wraps are brown with tan edges on all wraps. Agate stripper in an oxidized frame and black snake guides. Despite being unused, there are a few minor issues: first, the oxidation on the female ferrule has rubbed (my guess is from shipping) and is now a little blotchy, and second, the 12% nickel silver cap and ring has also acquired a patina. The nickel silver and bone ferrule plug fit smoothly. The cork grip is 5 3/4" long and shaped to a blunt western profile with the mass forward. The grip corks are 1/4" and wrapped in plastic. The downlocking nickel silver screwlock has a heavily engraved nut, slide, and butt cap. "DL Whitehead, Maker, Ser 131" is engraved (by Paolo Barbetti) on the butt cap. The mortised spacer is one of the most spectacular smokey veined Turkish walnut I have ever seen. The rod bag is a golden brown color and the rod tube is six sided and made of wood, with a cap that is held on with a leather strap and snap.
