An FE Thomas Special bamboo fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels to me like a #4 or #5 line. The rod weighs 4.2 ounces on my scale. 1945 manufacture date. Used but not abused condition with some hints of bag adhesion and a few varnish chips here and there. There are also some cosmetic casting cracks at the ferrule wraps. Medium oven tempered cane. Brown main wraps and 3-7-3-1 signature wraps as well as 3 underwraps on the tips and mid. High arch snake guides. The keeper is pinned through the front cork check. The grip is 5 1/2" long and fairly clean and smooth, and is shaped to a cigar profile with the weight in the middle. All-cork seat with a nickel silver ring and pocket cap. "F278" is stamped on the bottom of the butt cap. The rod packs into a green cloth bag and an aluminum tube with a brass bottom, collar, and top, which also sports the "Thomas Rod" shield logo that's in about 90% original condition.
