A nice HL Leonard model 41 bamboo fly rod, 8'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 or #6 line. Serial #1098 which puts the date of manufacture at approximately 1970. Medium action. Near mint or light use condition. Some grip soiling but not ferrule wrap cracks and the rod is Leonard shop straight. It weighs 4.9 ounces on my scale. The original owner's name is inked on the rod. Blonde cane done in a three up node pattern. 326 red main wraps with a darker red edge at the keeper and male ferrules. Black snake guides. The step ferrules are polished bright. The heavy cigar grip is 6 1/2" long. The seat is an aluminum square thread downlocking screwlock with a nickel silver stamped pocket cap ("HLL / HL Leonard Makers"). Butternut spacer. The rod packs into a cloth bag with a stiffener an an aluminum tube with brass hardware.
