A nice Orvis CF 125 fly rod, 8', 2-piece, 2-tip built for a #6 or #7 line (the sticker on the tube states a #6 while the writing on the rod states a HCF-7, and I think it could fish either). Serial #85994. This was a series of rods that Orvis made in the early 1980's to commemorate the company being in business for 125 years. The rod weighs 4.8 ounces on my scale. The original owner's name is inked on the shaft along with the rod model and specifications. Medium action, perhaps edging slightly toward medium slow. The rod appears to have been unfished, though there is a slight scrape to the welt on the female ferrule (I suspect that was from someone taking it apart improperly). The rod is nice and straight and the ferrules seat perfectly. Impregnated cane done in a three up node pattern. Wrapped in a honey color with red tipping at the keeper, main wraps, ferrules and tip tops. Carbide stripper with chrome guides and tip tops. Bright ferrules with an accompanying ferrule plug. The grip is 6 1/2" long and shaped to a western profile with a hidden pocket cap in the reel. The reel seat features a stabilized birds eye maple spacer with uplocking hardware with the makers stamp in the sliding ring. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag and the original black Orvis tube with the data sticker affixed to the outside.
