A very nice Thomas and Thomas Salmon Rod, 8'6", 2-piece, 2 tips, built for a #8 line. Serial #4380. Listed weight of 4 7/8 ounces. Powerful medium-fast action. "8 1/2' / #8", "Salmon", and "No 4380" are all lettered on the shaft in a handsome script just above the hallmark T&T swell. Excellent lightly used condition. Mottled cane done in a three up node pattern configuration. As with all T&T's the varnish was done to a very high standard. Transparent wraps with cinnamon edging and black tipping at the keeper, ferrules, and tip tops. The ferrules are wrapped black. The guides are chrome and, as with some T&T's, the guide wraps have some ghosting at the guide feet. The ferrules are oxidized with some mild marks to the males and some light discoloration to the female and mild brassing at the welt. The grip is 14 corks and measures 6 7/8" done in a mild western style grip with a slight flair at the rear. The grip has some very minor ridging, likely from having been cleaned at some point. Oxidized front cork check and bright rear check, which matches the similarly bright uplocking screw lock seat with a hidden pocket cap. The ring portion of the seat has "Thomas and Thomas, Makers" stamped into it and the wood spacer is nicely figured and mortised. There is a small plug in the bottom of the seat which also accommodates the included fighting butt, which stores into a separate screw compartment in the bottom end of the tube. One tip has a very mild scratch below the second guide from the top, and there are a few little marks of use here and there, but nothing of particular concern, just the normal evidence of having been lightly fished. The rod is nice and straight and the ferrule fits are good. The rod comes packed in a tan poplin bag with a stiffener and the original aluminum brass topped tube with the T&T data sticker affixed to it. A nice powerful single-handed salmon rod.
