A nice Thomas and Thomas Kosmic Commemorative Limited Edition rod, 8'6", 3-piece, 2-tip, built for a #5 line. Serial #5, made in 1984. 6.2 ounces. Full flexing medium slow action. I would describe the condition as "lawn cast once", as I can see a faint smidge of brassing in one tip but not the other. Oven tempered dark wheat straw colored cane in a three up node pattern. The wraps are chinese red with black edges. The stripping guide is a #10 SRMC carbide. The snake guides are black stainless. The step ferrules are swaged at the bottom in imitation of the Kosmic Rods of the 19th century. The rod sports a very large 1/2" front cork check of nickel silver. The grip is 5 1/4" long in a standard cigar profile and is composed of 1/8" to 1/16" corks. The reel seat is 4" long and is a celluloid blank, originally a white cream color. The rod appears to have spent a large portion of its time in a display case with a reel mounted on the seat as there is considerable tanning leaving the exposed areas tanned to a caramel color. The seat has a large rear cork check and two nickel silver wires that the slide bank rides on. The bottom of the seat is a 1" long nickel silver cup with a soldered pocket cap. "Thomas and Thomas, Makers" is a roller die stamped below the pocket cap. One end of the second guide down from the tip top on one tip has a bit of crazing from having been bumped but is solidly in place. The rod packs in a tan poplin bag with a stiffener. The aluminum tube is black anodized with a brass top and bottom and a T&T sticker just under the collar.
