For sale here is a Sam Carlson - Carlson "Four" bamboo rod in excellent+ original condition. Considered the holy grail by many classic cane rod enthusiasts, this Carlson quad was the first rod made in 1979. Sam only made approximately 300 rods in his lifetime.
The rod weighs 4 oz. and has a very pleasant casting feel, on the medium side of medium fast action. The rod casts a DT4 very impressively and also excels with a WF5 in shorter casting distance situations. The varnish, wraps, and cork grip are all in excellent condition. The bluing on the ferrules show slight wear at the four tapered edges.
Inked on the cane flats is the following:
791-4752 (the serial number)
C.W. "Sam" Carlson - Maker
Carlson "Four"
This fine rod comes from the personal collection of Carmine Lisella of the Jordan-Mills Rod Co. Included with this very historic rod is a letter of provenance from Dana Gray, a faint copy of the original index card from Sam Carlson's original files, and a signed Carlson marketing letter from the 90s. Carmine will also send a personal note to the new owner upon purchase.
