A superb EF Payne Model 110 bamboo fly rod, 9', 2-piece, 2-tip, that's built for what feels to me like an #8 or #9 line. The rod weighs 5.9 ounces. Excellent original condition, late 1950's vintage, with some modest cosmetic ferrule wrap cracks and minor guide wear. The ferrule are tight and the rod is straight. The cane is flamed with the typical node spacing. The original varnish is superb as you would expect from Payne. Perfection stripper and bronze snake guides. The main wraps are brown with red edges at all wraps and an extra band of yellow and purple at the keeper and male ferrules. The step ferrules are oxidized jet black and retain 99% of their original oxidation and come with a ferrule plug. The grip is 6 1/2" long and turned to a Western profile with a hidden pocket cap for the uplocking screwlock. The aluminum screwlock is stamped "Payne" in a cartouche and "Reg US Pat Off". The varnished spacer is Spanish cedar. This rod was not built with a detachable fighting butt. The rod packs into a poplin bag which has the hang tag and the original rod tube which has the Payne sticker in 75% original condition. A very rare model that I've seldom seen.
