For sale here is a George Halstead / John Gallas bamboo rod - 7 feet with two sections with two tips for a four or five-weight line. The rod is in excellent++ condition.
Built by Mr. Gallas from Halstead blanks in conjunction with Marty Keane. John (or Marty) acquired bona fide Halstead blanks and made up a run of 8 rods all die stamped Halstead/Gallas to the hardware. This rod, number 10, is an interesting and singular exception. Numbers 9 and 10 were later made by John as favors but also included both Halstead and Gallas die stamps. Further unique to this rod was the use of Halstead ferrules. This is a one owner rod, used lightly and with great respect. Historically of great significance this rod was pictured and discussed in the Winter 2008 issue of the American Fly Fisher in an extensive article about Halstead where it was referenced as one of the last Halstead rods. Truly a rare opportunity to own one of the last produced Halstead rods.
All sections are full length and straight. Beautifully tempered cane with chestnut wraps and red tipping at the ferrules and tip-tops. Red and green at the winding check. Blued ferrules and guides. Ring hook-keeper. Reverse-half wells grip 5 1/2" in length with only light soiling. Handsome bright aluminum up-locking reel seat over a beautifully figured Spanish cedar spacer. The ferrules are size 12/64 with a perfect fit. The rod weighs 3.70 oz. The action is on the faster side of medium fast - a terrific dry-fly rod. Includes the original bag and tube with label.
