An exquisite Hoagy Carmichael fly rod, model 205, a 7'6", 3-piece, 2-tip rod built for a #5 line. Serial # I 76-1, indicating a 1983 build date. This has a medium-fast action and has been very lightly used. Blonde cane with a spiral node pattern. Excellent varnish with no scratches or scuffs or hook digs. Original super Z ferrules with the round super Z logo. Dark brown wraps at the ferrules and tip tops, and light brown at the guides with an edge band of black at the ferrules and tip tops. Agate stripper and bronze snake guides. "Carmichael - 205" lettered one flat right and "I-76-1" 2 flats right. Uplocking screw lock with a hidden pocket cap under the heel of the grip. The varnished reel seat spacer has a very attractive grain and is a wood from Chile called Roble. The screw barrel and nut are expertly machined. The nut has 2 heavy knurls running in opposite directions and has a smooth turning core of Delrin to ensure no binding conditions occur. Now for the really neat part. When you screw off a rounded nut at the bottom of the seat -- voila! -- it is only a ring holding in a bank spear with 3 holes drilled in it for lightness made of aluminum. Reverse the bank spear and use the nut to screw it in place. According to Hoagy he and Vince Marinaro worked on this and only 3 rods were ever made by Hoagy with this feature. Hoagy told me that this was one of his absolute favorite rods. Comes with a light olive colored rod bag with ferrule plugs on cords sewn to the bag. Polished aluminum tube with a heavy aluminum bottom and a brass collar with an aluminum top. Here we have a chance to own a real piece of history from a tremendous figure in the history of the craft, one who made only around 100 rods in his career. Don't miss this one.
