For sale here is a very special R.L. Winston Rod Co. bamboo rod (Morgan/Brackett era) -- 8', 2/2 for a 5 weight line. Made for Al Wilson, who played a significant role in the designing of Winston rods at the time, specifically the grips, reel seats, and wood spacers. With a background of 30 years in the furniture/cabinet making business his attention to detail and skills were among the best. We purchased this rod from Wilson's nephew in 2011. The bottom of the butt cap is inscribed, "Al Wilson 1985".
Serial #2002. The rod is in near mint+ original condition. All sections are full length and straight. Blonde cane with honey colored wraps, burgundy tipping at the winding check, ferrules, and tip-tops. Bronzed guides. The tips are numbered for convenience. Full wells grip 6 1/2" in length with only the lightest of handling marks. The top and bottom edge of the grip also have a red tint left from the red rod bag. Black aluminum down-locking reel seat with a stunning scrimshaw spacer depicting a brown trout rising to a mayfly. This was a $265 option in the 1983 Winston catalog.
The ferrules are size 13/64 with a perfect fit. The actual weight of the rod is 4.05 oz. The action is smooth and on the medium side of medium-fast. Comes with original Winston bag and tube with Twin Bridges logo. Don't miss out on this one!

- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

- Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt. Refunds will be either administered by providing a check or, when possible, by canceling a credit card purchase.
